Privacy-focused WireGuard/OpenVPN provider operating from Gibraltar under IVPN Limited since 2009. All client apps are open source under GPLv3. Signup requires no personal information -- just the generated account ID.
Usage Notes
Why it's strong for us: one of the most consistent audit records in the industry -- Cure53 has audited the apps and no-logs infrastructure every year since 2019 (eighth annual audit due 2026), with full reports published. GPLv3 open-source clients let researchers verify behaviour. Gibraltar has no mandatory data-retention law and sits outside Five Eyes. The no-email account ID plus cash/Monero payment support genuinely anonymous use.
Tradeoffs: pricier than most, with a smaller network (~35 countries) and weak streaming unblocking. Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory, so some distant UK legal influence is a consideration versus a fully independent jurisdiction like Switzerland.
Best fit: privacy-maximalists who value a long, repeated audit trail and don't need streaming or a huge server list. Similar niche to Mullvad; pick on jurisdiction/network preference.
Rejected Alternatives
Israeli-owned options (Kape's ExpressVPN / CyberGhost / PIA / ZenMate, Hola VPN, Hotspot Shield via Pango) are rejected on ownership grounds -- see Category:VPN.
