On self-hosting and deplatform risk: email is the highest-leverage account you own – it is the recovery path for everything else, so losing the domain or provider is catastrophic. Self-hosting removes provider lock-in but deliverability (not landing in spam) is hard to run well; a self-hosted domain with a reputable relay, or a provider that lets you bring your own domain and export freely, is usually the pragmatic middle. Prefer providers where you control the domain, so you can move without losing your address.
